Tipton Cantilevered Barn

The Tipton Cantilevered Barn is in Cades Cove, Tennessee which is a historic part of the Great Smokey Mountain National Park. The Cades Cove area was founded by John Oliver in the early 1800s. This photographer is a direct descendant of the Oliver’s of Cades Cove.
The federal government forced the members of the Cades Cove community to leave the area around 1912 to 1919. The removal was part of the government’s acquisition of the National Park. Many of the houses were torn down while most of the log cabins were restored.

This Cades Cove picture is of the Tipton's Cantilevered Barn. The Tipton’s and the Oliver’s were neighbors and intermarried within the two families. This very interesting old cantilevered barn picture was taken across the road from the Tipton House. This old barn picture is of a very unique barn that is seldom seen in the south.  For all of the Cades Cove pictures including John and Elijah Oliver Cabins see them in our Cades Cove Picture Collection.
